Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that remodels the contour of the gum line by lowering it. This is the only option to affix a crown on a tooth when there is not enough tooth structure. In instances where a tooth has been broken below the gum line, crown lengthening is very successful in exposing more of the tooth, so that the dentist has something to work with.
