Sealants

Sealants are a great preventative method to protect against tooth decay and cavities on the back teeth. Molars are the most vulnerable to tooth decay because they are used in the chewing process, and are difficult to reach and clean. Sealants should be placed when the molars first come in to ensure that they are protected early.

To place a sealant, a dental adhesive is applied to the teeth. Then, the sealant is placed over the adhesive as a liquid. The liquid hardens to create a barrier between the tooth and any food particles, plaque, and bacteria. Sealants last for about 10 years and can be reapplied if necessary.
